Open surgery for Dupuytren's disease
Open surgery has a longstanding history in the treatment of Dupuytren's disease. Open surgery typically requires general or regional anesthesia in an operating room environment. It has the potential downside of increased bleeding, pain, anesthesia issues, tendon/nerve/artery injury, and cost when compared to needle aponeurotomy.
I perform open surgery for appropriate patients, but you must live within driving distance so that care can be properly coordinated. Open surgery may be appropriate if you want a lower recurrence rate, although no treatement method guarantees this.
